Tienken’s Take – September 2022

Organization Spotlight: Habitat for Humanity | Portland Region

To kickstart September, we are highlighting an organization that is near and dear to our hearts — Habitat for Humanity! Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit housing organization, working in local communities across all 50 U.S. states, and approximately 70 countries. Habitat’s vision is of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. And works toward its vision by building strength, stability, and self-reliance with families who are in need of affordable housing. In addition, they also put together build days, where homeowners can assist in building their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage.

For 2022, we’ve teamed up with the Habitat for Humanity Portland Region as our organization of the year! This organization resonated well with us, as we share a common goal of ensuring those in our community have a place they can call home, and the opportunity to build a better life.

Since 1981, the Portland Chapter has built and repaired homes in partnership with over 2,000 people across the Portland region and plans to triple the number of people they serve each year. For those reasons, we donate a portion of every referral and commission to the Habitat for Humanity Portland Region. To those we’ve worked with and will work with this year, thank you for your help in making a difference in our community!

Our Build Day

This summer we had the opportunity to participate in a Habitat for Humanity Build Day, where we helped complete Habitat for Humanity’s newly built community by cleaning up the nature area behind their new duplex and triplex. We joined with many of our key vendors to volunteer and donate to the organization to make the build day happen. A big thank you to our amazing vendors that played a part in making this day a huge success!

Market Update

  • We’re starting to see buyers regain some power in the market as the supply of available homes is slowly increasing, however, the market is still competitive as buyers are now showing more discretion when writing offers.
  • We remain in a seller’s market. The market has 2 months of inventory, which is still far off from the 6 months of inventory which signifies a balanced market.
  • Property prices and mortgage rates remain higher than they were a year ago, yet show no sign of rapidly declining.

Now is still a great time to get in the game if you’re a buyer!
